We do everything possible to be sure your child has a great experience. Before his or her appointment, your child can play by the tree house in our reception area or watch cartoons. After a successful appointment, we give kids a token for a surprise from the treasure egg machine.
Your child’s first appointment is a “happy visit.” Happy visits are usually recommended around age three to five, though sometimes we see younger children for a short exam. At a happy visit your child will sit in the dental chair, have a chance to look around the operatory a little, and if things are going smoothly, then we’ll clean your child’s teeth as well. The doctor also comes in for an exam to check for cavities and other concerns.
Once your child is familiar with our office, we take x-rays and apply fluoride at least once a year, and clean and examine the teeth at least twice a year. We also closely monitor what teeth are coming in and falling out. As the permanent molars come in, we’ll talk with you about having a hygienist seal them to help prevent decay.
Of course, sometimes all the precaution in the world can’t prevent a cavity. If your child has to come back for a filling or more extensive treatment, download our tips sheet for ideas on how to make the treatment go as smoothly as possible.
