New name/new partnership

We’re lucky to have had Dr. Drackert with us since 2009. In that time he’s established his home in Carthage and truly become part of the Cornerstone family. In fact, in the spring of 2011, Dr. Drackert joined Dr. Saladin as a partner in the practice! To reflect the new partnership, we’ve tweaked our name just a little and are now Cornerstone Family Dental. Family dentistry has always been our approach—now it’s part of our name.

Missouri Smiles

Cornerstone Family Dental is helping elementary students across southwest Missouri get healthier smiles! The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services funds a program called Missouri Smiles to provide education and preventive care for children across the state.

Four mobile dental operatories visit elementary schools throughout Jasper, Newton, McDonald, Barry, and Lawrence counties. Dr. Saladin and Dr. Drackert encourage Cornerstone employees to volunteer with ACHE Dental (a division of Area Community Heath Emissaries) and other volunteer hygienists, dental assistants, and dentists to provide free fluoride varnishes, sealants, and dental screenings.

MO Smiles is about more than fluoride and sealants, though. At every screening, kids learn more about brushing and flossing and get a new toothbrush. If a child has obvious dental problems that need immediate attention, the school notifies the parents to recommend going to urgent care or seeing a dentist as soon as possible.

With so many professionals, volunteers, and school personnel working together, MO Smiles is truly community based.

Candy for a Cause

On October 31, 2011, Cornerstone kicked off “Candy for a Cause,” an incentive to help kids curb their Halloween candy intake.

Check out KSN 16’s coverage. Anyone who brought in their Halloween candy could trade it in for a backpack, toothbrush, and toothpaste. The traded candy went to troops serving overseas.

MOMOM

Ten Cornerstone Family Dental team members helped serve over 1800 patients at a two-day dental clinic in Springfield, MO in September, 2011. This Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic was the first ever in Missouri.

The Missouri Mission of Mercy, or MOMOM, is a completely free event for patients who otherwise cannot afford basic dental care. For two days, more than 1,000 volunteers gathered at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds to provide cleanings, fillings, and extractions for patients from all over the state.

“MOMOM was well-organized and it was rewarding to help so many people,” Dr. Drackert said. The 2012 even has not yet been announced, but you can keep up with the latest updates by clicking on the MOMOM logo at modental.org.
